Atkins Diet: Is there a Golden Shot?
Posted by admin under: Fitness Myths .

Is there only one shot at the Atkins Diet success? In this video, I deal with the “Golden Shot” theory (http://www.lowcarbluxury.com/goldenshot.html), which states that the first time is always the easiest time to lose weight with low carb.
While I acknowledge that the body can react differently over time to food and thereby make it tougher (or easier) to lose weight, the same processes and rules that worked the first time should work each and every time. Your CCLL numbers may change as you age or have different activity levels, but the procedure for finding them and your reaction to the number stays the same. You can be as successful the second time as the first. The goal should be long term health and keeping the weight off, so figure out what went wrong the first time, i.e. what caused you to get off the diet and return to old ways of eating.
Second timers who have regained their weight since losing the first time should in fact have a leg up on first timers as they should already know the program, know the rules, and have keen interest to learning how to keep the weight off this time. The thought of the Golden Shot seems just a bit off to me as well as it just serves to feed self-doubt and set one up for failure. You CAN succeed at this diet whether it be your first or third attempt.

High carbohydrate …
High carbohydrate can lead to increased hyperinsulinemia. If he regained a lot of weight he probably has increased hyperinsulinemia and therefore he will be more resistant to weight loss.

That was the second …
That was the second point I was trying to make. Hyperinsulinemia could make the weight loss slower as the body doesn’t want to be fooled again and starts releases too much insulin in relation to the food intake, but that doesn’t only affect second-timers. There are more metabolically resistant going through the first time as well. Your CCLL may be different the second time, so learning where your body is in OWL is just as important the second time.

Mashed beans - I am …
Mashed beans - I am not familiar with that recipe. Green beans are allowed in one cup, but that is about it for beans until the latter rungs of OWL.
The mashed cauliflower recipe that I posted to Youtube (fauxtatoes) is absolutely Induction legal. You might need to do a bit more planning for Induction in getting meal plans laid out. Figure out what has been your downfall in past attempts — missing potatoes too much, start finding some good sides recipes to replace it.

Yeah, he needs to …
Yeah, he needs to go on an exercise program too. I let him run the stairs, but elsewhere he has an affinity to cords, which must be like bunny crack.
Thanks for validating the myth of the golden shot and for people not to be discouraged.
